Hi everyone! I'm new to Dreamwidth and still figuring things out, but I wanted to have a platform where I could share my thoughts in long-form blog posts. The other options available to me weren't quite a good fit for the specific type of content I'd like to write, and process of elimination brought me here to Dreamwidth!
Anything attached to my real name can't get too personal or too fannish, so Facebook or LinkedIn or more professional blogs are out. Tumblr kind of scares me, because any post I make could get amplified to thousands of people and I'd have little control over that. I might cross-post fandom content over to tumblr, but nothing more personal or political in nature. Then there's Goodreads - while I plan on writing some book reviews, Goodreads book reviews tend to have a certain style to them that I don't mesh with? Sometimes it seems the reviewers are there to show off their writing chops, and critique a book while pretending to have an objective perspective. I'd rather discuss my personal relationship with a book and dive into what it means to me.
In summary, I'm here to talk about my feeeeelings (but the feelings will likely be intertwined with literary analysis and detailed research and intersectionality and cold hard logic and perhaps the occasional poetry). What can I say, I'm proud to be a contradiction.
Here's a list of posts that are coming up soon (please note this is a tentative list and I make no guarantees):
- Analyzing Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood to specifically discuss the protagonist's C-PTSD
- How Olivia Rodrigo's new album Sour skillfully addresses ageism and misogyny
- Discussion of how fanfic portrays therapy and trauma recovery compared to mainstream media
- Exploring how Harry Potter and Star Wars fanfics conceptualize meditation
- Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia, and its allegorical depictions of mental health challenges
- The Babysitter's Club Netflix reboot is the young feminist empowerment we all needed
- A defense of the movie Moxie, since so many common critiques are missing the point
- Hamilton songs, compared and contrasted with their earlier drafts
And on a less specific level, I'll probably also write about books I like, songs I like, fanfics I like, tropes I like, and miscellaneous other things that I enjoy and have lots of thoughts about! I'm also considering using this blog as a way to encourage myself to reflect and consider more deeply about my executive dysfunction and work habits. I've been avoiding that type of self-reflection lately, but hopefully making the time to sit down and write about my systems will help in this regard.
There's also a chance I might share my own fanfiction on here? I have so many thoughts about how I'd approach a Hamilton high school + foster care AU, while incorporating youth empowerment and political advocacy! Also, dozens of ideas for improving hero schools in Boku no Hero Academia through applying basic principles of pedagogy and caring for students' holistic well-being (and also copying real-world rich private schools). I'm not sure though, I'm still a little shy about sharing the fiction I've written, so maybe I'll just share fanfic ideas and outlines for now. I'm not sure yet! Still figuring this out!
